What are power interruptions, and can they be prevented?

Power interruptions are disruptions to one’s access to electricity which is caused by a wide variety of reasons. Some power interruptions (e.g. scheduled maintenance activities) are controllable while others (e.g. natural calamities, bad weather) are impossible to control. This means that power interruptions can never be fully prevented and are simply a part of our everyday reality. In general, there are two types of interruptions, scheduled power interruptions and unscheduled power interruptions.

For more information, read about the causes of power interruptions here.

What are scheduled power interruptions?

Scheduled power interruptions are disruptions to one’s access to electricity that are controllable by power suppliers, NGCP, and electric cooperatives. These are important in ensuring a safe and reliable distribution of electricity. Because they are controllable, they are announced a few days before the scheduled interruption.

What are unscheduled power interruptions?

Unscheduled power interruptions are disruptions to one’s access to electricity that are uncontrollable by electric cooperatives. These are caused by a wide variety of reasons such as bad weather, natural typhoons, and even man-made accidents.
